In Whatsapp you see blue checkmarks/ticks if the other person read your message. Whatsapp give you the posibility to turn off the blue ticks. Nobody sees that you have read the messages. The only problem is that you also can’t see if your messages are read.

To the turn the blue ticks off take the following steps: menu -> SETTINGS -> Account -> Privacy. Uncheck the option Read receipts.
